Nike in today's time has become such a major global profit dynasty that it is literally every you go you see the swoosh logo. A long time ago it didn’t always used to be like that back in January 25, 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports and was founded by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight and would sell track shoes out of the trunks of their cars. A couple years later they decided to change the name to Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1978. The company takes its meaning from Nike, Greek goddess of victory. Now Nike markets its products under its own brand, as well as Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Air Jordan, Nike Skateboarding. In adding to its sportswear and equipment, the company operates retail stores under the name Niketown, which this 5 story “mecca” for sneaker heads is located off of 6 East 57th Street, New York, NY they are also more locations such as San Francisco in Union Square and in Seattle. Nike also sponsors many high-profile athletes such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Paul Rodriguez, and everyone’s favorite superstar Michael Jordan and many other sports teams around the world, with the highly recognized their trademark of these three words "Just Do It". Today they are the world's leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment, with revenue in excess of US$24.1 billion in its fiscal year 2012 (That’s a lot of money!). As of 2012, it employed more than 44,000 people worldwide. The brand alone is valued at $10.7 Billion (wow...) making it the most valuable brand among sports businesses.
